If you have been assaulted...

You have just had a life-changing event.  We are here for you. Asking for help is the first step in your recovery from this event.

Call our 24/7/365 hotline 205.860.SAFE (7233)

The Tuscaloosa SAFE Center is open Monday-Friday from 8:30-4:30. If you call after hours, the answering service will send the on-call SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) a confidential message and the SANE will contact you to arrange meeting at the center.

The staff at the Tuscaloosa SAFE Center are mandatory reporters. That means that although we offer Jane Doe (anonymous) reporting, if you are under the age of 19, elderly or are in an otherwise vulnerable population, we are required by law to report assault to Law Enforcement and/or DHR.

In order to help preserve evidence until you meet the SANE, please DO NOT:

  • Eat anything.

  • Drink anything

  • Use the restroom unless you simply can’t wait.  **If you must use the restroom, please DO NOT wipe or clean yourself.**

If you have changed your clothing, please place the clothes you were wearing when you were assaulted in a paper bag and bring it with you to the center.
